
Competition of children’s drawing
„My city –the city of storks”
There are more than 30 cities, towns and villages in Europe which have stork in their coat of arms , and every of them has her own story about the history of this symbol. Do you know why the stork is so important for your city or town why it has become a symbol of a city or town ?
It is believed in Latvia that the stork is a bird who gives blessing and peace for people where this bird has come to make his nest. The stork is a symbol of a good family rich in children and a symbol of prosperity.
28 april 2001 is a birthday for European Stork City Organization (ESCO). This organization associates European cities and towns which have the symbol of stork in the coat of arms. They are Storkow (Germany), Busk (Ukraine), Komarovce (Slovakia), Luka nad Jihlavou (Czech), Ramygala (Lithuania),Staicele (Latvia).
Stork cities and towns are quite different.. They are located in various countries. They have different traditions, history, number of inhabitants. But each of them have children who are proud of their native place whose symbol is a stork.
Regulation
The objectives of the competition.
To develop fantasy of children, to stimulate children ‘s interest in their native town or city, interaction between man and nature.
The tasks of the competition.
To paint or draw a picture according to the title. The best works will be printed as postcards which are aimed to popularize ESCO.
The terms of competition:
At the same time in all „stork cities” from 15 March 2005 - 15 April 2005 .
Drawings must be sent to ESCO office till 15 April 2005 ( postal stamp).

Children aged 7 – 16 .
The Materials
By your choice– pencils , water-colours, crayons, Indian ink etc. (Warning!
Your drawings must be safe for sending by post )
The pocedure of evaluation.
The drawings will be judged by the jury formed from
1 2 pupils;
2 1 representative of ESCO;
2 1 inhabitant from Staicele;
3 1 professional painter.
The drawings will be judged till the 15th of May. The results will be announced by the post to the schools of winners till the end of May.
The standards of judgement
Originality, artistic value,technical perfomance, conformity to subject. The participating children are divided and judged in three age groups: 7-10 ;11- 13 ; 14 - 16 year old.
The exhibitions of drawings.
All drawings of the competition will be exhibited in measure „The days of books” that will take place on 30 th of April in Staicele. All drawings will be exhibited in Komarovce )Slovakia) where the conference of ESCO takes place.
Awarding
Three best authors of drawings from every age group will be awarded . The prizes will be sent by post to the winner.
